There’s a song that has stayed with me over the years: I’ve Been to Paradise (But I’ve Never Been to Me). And every now and again, I find myself thinking about it.
So, if someone handed me a round-trip ticket to anywhere in the world, where would I go?
Monaco!
Not necessarily for the expensive cars, designer boutiques or impressive yachts, although I certainly wouldn’t complain about experiencing a little luxury.
I’m curious about the culture, the history, the people and the lifestyle. I’ve heard plenty about old money and the world of established wealth, but I’d love to see beyond the glamorous exterior.
I’d want to spend enough time there to experience two different sides of Monaco. First, the hotel experience: waking up to Mediterranean views, enjoying leisurely breakfasts and exploring the beautiful surroundings.
Then, perhaps renting an apartment and experiencing everyday life. Visiting local shops, discovering hidden corners, observing the culture and getting a sense of what it’s like to call Monaco home, even if only temporarily.
Call it research. Call it curiosity. I simply believe there’s something valuable about stepping outside the familiar and experiencing a different pace of life.
Of course, Jamaica will always hold a special place in my heart. But home doesn’t have to be the only place we dream about exploring.
Sometimes we need a change of scenery, a new perspective and the opportunity to experience something completely different.
And perhaps that’s what that song has always reminded me of: there’s a whole world waiting to be experienced.
I’ve been to paradise, but I’ve never been to Monaco. Perhaps it’s time to change that!
