What’s the Most Interesting Custom You’ve Encountered?
One of the most interesting customs I’ve encountered is how different cultures celebrate and honour community through food, music, and storytelling. No matter where people come from, there always seems to be a special tradition that brings everyone together — and I find that beautiful.
Growing up with Caribbean influence, I’ve always loved how gatherings are never just gatherings. They become full experiences. The food is rich with flavour and history, the music tells stories without needing explanation, and laughter travels through every corner of the room. Even difficult times are met with togetherness. That sense of unity is powerful.
I’m also fascinated by traditions where people pause to honour ancestors or give thanks before major milestones. In a fast-moving world, customs like these remind us to stay connected to our roots and to the people who came before us.
Another custom I admire is the way some cultures remove shoes before entering a home. It may seem simple, but it reflects respect, cleanliness, and mindfulness for someone else’s space and energy. Small gestures often carry the deepest meaning.
What I’ve learned is that customs may look different across the world, but at their core, many of them are about connection — to family, culture, spirituality, and identity.
And honestly? I think that’s something worth preserving.
